Titel
Development of a navigation system for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
Abstract
TMS is currently used in neurology to explore the cortical representations of certain functions of the brain. In psychiatry, it is intended to be used for the treatment of psychological disorders such as depression. Currently, this method is evaluated in clinical studies around the world. In both cases, the knowledge of the precise location and orientation of the induced currents is essential for the interpretation of measurement results. In close collaboration with the University Hospital Ulm, Germany, the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) has developed a navigation system especially adapted to TMS requirements.
