Polymers can be incorporated into different types of devices including optoelectronic sensors, which have the ability to detect specific wavelengths of light. In this study, poly(N-vinyl carbazole) was combined with [6,6]-phenyl-C 61-butyric acid methyl ester to form a bulk heterojunction in a traditional solar cell device structure. The ability of this system to detect ultra violet light was explored with absorbance and efficiency measurements. It was found that devices with the given materials system generate open circuit voltage values of up to 0.275 V under illumination with wavelengths from 220 to 300 nm. Higher performance values could be achieved with an optimized anode showing a higher transmittance at 300 nm.
