Titel
Bridging the gap between technologies - 1394 AP protocol for IEEE1394 in industrial automation
Abstract
The paper presents an IEEE1394 based protocol for industrial automation called 1394AP. The protocol will define a solution that will enable different controllers to communicate on the same IEEE1394 bus. It also includes mechanisms for global synchronization. 1394AP, which is already under development, will provide the full interoperability and interchangeability to distributed systems with real-time control and monitoring capabilities and its components, especially for motion control. Based on the analysis of such systems the paper will focus on the definition and implementation of the 1394AP protocol. Technical preconditions, topology demands, and performance optimization as well as first experiences with 1394AP will also be discussed. A European consortium of industrial enterprises and research institutes already supports 1394AP.
