Abstract
Picking in seismic traces can be combined with operations like frequency filtering and Hilbert transforming. The basic formula simply is an inner product of the vector of original data and an operation-specific interpolating function that is derived from sinc-functions. For practical application, operators can be truncated and the average of operators with half-length 7, 9, and 11 offers a good tradeoff between speed and accuracy. Different operations can be combined to one. By pre-computing the operator values, the method offers a cheap way of, e.g., Hilbert transforming, filtering, and interpolating in one step. Dedicated applications of the method are processes that deal with big data sets in memory and random access to traces - in particular for implementations on multi-core hardware architectures.
