Over the past years, lasers with superb beam quality and cutting machines with l inear drives have enabled laser beam cutting to successfully compete with punchi ng. With axial acceleration exceeding 4 g and high acceleration rates, the aver age cutting rate along the contour approaches the maximum cutting rate set by te chnological limits, preferably with thin sheet material (< 1 mm), while the high accuracy requirements for the contour cuts are met. Potential benefits and limi ts of parameter optimisation are illustrated by means of typical examples.
