Studies on the electrodoposition of nickel molybdenum alloys
Abstract
Using a pyrophosphate electrolyte at 30°C and current density around 5A/dm2, it is possible to electrolytically deposit nickel-molybdenum alloys with 20 to 30wt% Mo content. Though previous studies using weak acid or alkaline electrolytes with sodium molybdate have been reported, no comparable results have been previously achieved. Nickel-molybdenum deposits from pyrophosphate electrolyte exhibits a micro-cracked network indicative of high internal stress values, and for deposits of up to 3m thickness, give adequate adhesion to substrate.
