Quality assurance: Adhesives under pressure: How compressible are they?
Abstract
Knowledge from the material sciences, fluid mechanics, and process engineering allow phenomena during the machine processing of adhesives to be studied on a scientific basis. Here, assumptions must be scrutinized in a reasoned way and misleading hypotheses discarded. Using this approach it is possible to optimally design adhesive bonding processes. In industrial practice, for example, the phenomenon of the initial blob of adhesive can be effectively countered by suitable lowering of the pressure when the outlet valve is closed.
