The components and techniques enabling 160 Gbit/s optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) transmission were discussed. At the transmitter side an optical pulse generated a pulse train with a repetition rate corresponding to the base rate used. The optical pulse source, multiplexer, clock recovery and switching devices for the optical demultiplexer were also discussed.
