The Virtual Remote Controlled Factory-Supported Plant Life Cycles by Virtual Reality
Abstract
Advanced 3D simulation tools nowadays are not limited to the field of robot systems simulation. The simulation systems have been extended with NC, PLC and sensor simulation. They have the possibility to simulate working stations with a compiler for creating ready for action NC code. For modern industrial processes requirements for material flow, staff planning, control layout etc. must be met. So these processes are characterized by an increasing complexity. Turbulent markets increase the need for high flexibility and fast changes of product variants. To adapt to a new product variant the production site has to be reconfigurated. Still today these reconfigurations contain objective and subjective components of tuning. Objective tuning tasks can easily be performed by above mentioned tools and operations research methods. Implicit know how like expert knowledge and experience belong to subjective tuning tasks and are difficult to imply. Personal preferences and hard to parameterize values are rarely recognized in simulation programs. So a configuration environment in which a production planner can use his knowledge directly in an intuitive way is desirable. This implementation of a realistic surrounding can be performed by Virtual Reality methods.
