A new method for determining aeroballistic parameters for projectile flight data has recently been developed by the Ernst Mach Institute. As part of the development for this effort, a study on the influence of errors in the flight data measurements on the determined aeroballistic parameters has been performed. For this study, error-free synthetic data were created to mimic experimentally measured flight data that include acceleration (linear and angular), velocity, position, Euler angles, and body angular rates. This data were then parametrically corrupted with varying amounts of stochastic error. The aeroballistic parameters obtained from this corrupt data were then compared with both aeroballistic parameters used to create the synthetic data and aeroballistic parameters obtained from error-free data. This study was able to define the limits of error required for real-world data to successfully determine the aeroballistic parameters. While these error limits are specif ic for the test case detailed herein, it is expected similar error levels exist for similar sized projectiles.
