Abstract
Today, a few frequently occured measuring and evaluation tasks cannot be solved by conventional measuring technology. This includes the derivation of geometrical data of complex parts in connection with actual-nominal comparisons of prototypes. In 1998, an user group to deal with new volume oriented digitizing techniques, like computertomography, was found at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation in Stuttgart. One of the most active partners of the Fraunhofer IPA is Bombardier-Rotax. Supported by this company tellingly tasks for testing and evaluating the new techniques have been processed. The report refers to two examples: 1. the derivation of geometrical data of a cylinder head to simulate flow in the water cycle and 2. actual-nominal comparison of a motorbike cylinder.
