This article explains a way how to employ a priori modelled production knowledge, especially for robotic work cells, in order to automatically generate code for manufacturing applications. This implies that production knowledge needs to be available in a formalized, complete and reusable way.
The production process is decomposed in a top-down approach in order to start from a process-centric view an then refining the device-centric view.
The presented approach promises a strong potential for realizing future robot installations in a robust and efficient way in order to reduce the entrance barriers for low volume or customized product, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.
