Titel
Distance perception by natural hearing and by head-related-stereophony
Abstract
Research into distance hearing by using speech as a test signal was carried out in the Concert Hall of the Hochschule fur Musik Berlin. The research covered two areas: 1. Determination of the absolute Difference Limen (aUS) of distance perception as a function of the distance between sound source and the test person. 2. Determination of the relationship between the actual distance of the sound source (Schallereignisentfernung) and the perceived distance (Horereignisentfernung). The research was first carried out by natural hearing. It was then checked to see if listening with the artificial head transmission system developed by Kurer, Plenge and Wilkens (1969) (artificial head, earphones) resulted in a shift in the aUS of distance perception and/or an impairment in the relationship between the actual distance of the sound source and the perceived distance.
