Titel
Interactive CATV-services and inherent problems of man-machine-communication
Abstract
Two-way CATV-systems have the potential to deliver a wide variety of interactive services to very large numbers of users. Unlike known computer installations in institutional environments, CATV-systems have to serve all parts of the public meeting highly different expectations and requirements. The design of man-machine-communication is therefore one of the most important criterions for acceptance of new services. This affects both the design of the home terminal and the dialogue system. Starting with the presentation of typical interactive services, this paper discusses the CATV-user, his requirements on the subscriber terminal and the dialogue system. Finally, considering technical requirements, three types of compatible home terminals are described.
