Abstract
Describes an optical transmission system operating at a bit-rate of 2.24 Gbit/s over a 5.5 km single-mode fibre which was realised with commercially available opto-electronic and electronic components. The receiving unit of the system comprises circuits for complete signal and clock regeneration. Except for one MESFET only bipolar transistors are used.
