Titel
A practical method for estimating the bottom of the Earth's magnetic crust
Abstract
Presents a new method which allows the depths of the lower boundaries of sources in the magnetic crust to be estimated. The characteristic evaluation function is the spectrum of energy density, which is obtained by means of the two-dimensional Fourier transform of total intensity values given in a plane. The investigation of this spectrum provides a method which allows depth interpretations for the location of the upper and lower edges of the sources, for the single-prism and prism-ensemble models, by means of a spectral decomposition. The extension of this method to double-ensemble models allows the average depth parameters of both source ensembles and the ratio of their magnetizations by means of a repeated spectral decomposition to be estimated. The method is applied to data in the GDR and in Eastern Europe.
