Titel
Multi dimensional interpolation of progressive frames from spatio-temporally subsampled HDTV fields
Abstract
Three-dimensional downsampling of a wideband high-definition television signal provides an appropriate data rate for digital transmission. Two sampling patterns, fieldquincunx and linequincunx, have been proposed for an interlaced signal. By reproducing progressive frames in the receiver some of the disturbing effects of present television systems can be avoided. Multidimensional digital filters are required both for interpolating a sequence of frames from spatiotemporally subsampled television fields. The author deals with linear and movement adaptive systems for both sampling patterns with special regard to the attainable spectral behavior. Problems posed by calculating a reliable motion control signal are analyzed under consideration of the sampling pattern. Proposals are made for an improved motion detector by three-dimensional signal processing.
