This paper discusses the applicability of numerical and analytical methods to compute the sound transmission of thin baffled plates with dissipative boundaries. Two kinds of approaches are studied: FEM and BEM, analytical methods using modal or polynomial basis functions to describe the plate motion. The fully coupled structure-acoustic problem is also calculated iteratively in order to reduce the computational load required by a direct method. Since a straightforward realization of the iteration may diverge, two possibilities to overcome this problem are investigated: splitting of the iteration matrix and modified handling of the interface conditions between fluid and solid domains. The results indicate that convergence and computation time can be improved by employing the splitting method. The validity of the computational model is assessed by contrasting the predicted and measured sound transmission loss of an aluminum plate in a duct.
