Title
Processors for real-time picture transformation of HDTV signals
Abstract
For HDTV video signals, fast transformation circuit structures have been developed to allow real-time signal processing. There are applications in data reduction for video signal transmission, and in the realisation of filter functions. Parallel processor architectures are presented, suitable for use in HDTV systems. At the Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) a processor for the two-dimensional discrete cosine transform (2D-DCT) with a block size of 8*8 points has been developed in 1.5 mu m CMOS technology. The component has a data throughput of 80 MS/s. For the processing of signal frequencies up to 150 MHz, a multi-function component in ECL technology has been constructed; it can be used for digital filtering, the cosine transform and for matrix coding and decoding.
