Titel
Additional advantages of motion pictures for information acquisition?
Abstract
An additional advantage is expected for the acquisition of two types of information relevant e.g. in the field of medicine, of technology or of sports: (1) characteristic object motions and (2) the spatial structure of objects. It is assumed that the special property of motion pictures to make continuous changes visibly apparent can be exploited especially concerning the presentation of both types of information. The cognizance of motions and spatial structures is needed to perform various tasks in particular, if these involve identifying objects and object motions, replicating motor control activities correctly, and understanding interrelationships. Based on a methodic approach making it possible to generalize results of learning experiments, a series of eight investigations was carried out. With regard to learning success and time, almost equal results were found for presentations both with and without motion pictures. However, with respect to subjective criteria accompanying the learning process, a substantial superiority of motion pictures was indicated in certain circumstances. The investigations are being expanded to cover more complicated movement properties.
