In order to explore and eventually control a wider range of parameters (viewing conditions, general design features of motion pictures), which may enhance or hamper the personal experience of such displays, a series of human factors studies is carried out under an extended methodological scheme. A variety of assessment procedures for application during and subsequent to presentation (120" front projection) of a 15-minute HDTV program was tested in the first 2 experiments with a total of 40 subjects. Emerging response patterns are rather complex. Results are presented and discussed with reference to the issues of viewing distance and a future HDTV production grammar.
