This contribution presents the work of the VDI GPP consortium 'Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) - work group MES-logical interfaces' from 2008 until 2010. An ontology as description for a standardized data exchange interface between MES and machine was developed there in cooperation with industry and research. Content of this ontology is presented in this contribution. The goal is a horizontal integration of MES [1]. For evaluation of the defined contents and descriptions, the interface can be mapped to existing data exchange interfaces. The procedure will be explained by means of the application example AQDEF (Automotive Quality Data Exchange Format).
