Titel
Irrelevance reduction in the depth information in stereo television pictures
Abstract
With the necessary data reduction in three-dimensional television systems (3DTV), the paper gives some results of experiments in the reduction of irrelevance in relation to depth information. For the experiments, the disparities representing the binocular depth information in stereo images were computed, quantised, and used in the reconstruction of further stereo pairs. The results show that the depth resolution of a television stereo pair is acceptable although it may be appreciably coarser than the depth perception of a viewer with normal vision. Some aspects of the limitation of the bandwidth as a further measure of irrelevance reduction are discussed.
