Titel
Full-colour diffraction-based optical system for light-valve projection displays
Abstract
In the final article of this three-part series, the optical system for a light-valve projector with metallized viscoelastic control layers and active-matrix addressing is described. The requirements of one single light source, three identical light modulators, and one projection lens for the three colour channels lead to design specifications that were implemented in a laboratory setup with closely linked dark-field and projection subsystems. Design and construction of the experimental projection system as well as its possible improvements are discussed and details of the mirror bars, the illumination unit, the colour separation and recombination arrangement, the dark-field subsystem and the projection subsystem are presented. Finally, the overall efficiency of the system and its optimization are considered.
