Most of the developments in the field of carbon nanotube (CNT) actuators were driven by the potential of applying them in fields like medicine technology where requirements towards devices (especially those to be used as in-body parts) are very high. Taking into consideration the recent performance results obtained in the laboratories of Fraunhofer IPA, where "dry" CNT-polymer actuators are being developed, an overview of potential applications is given. Except from the introduction of potential applications in the medicine technology that could reach the market in short-, mid- and long-term periods of time, demonstrators and functional models constructed at Fraunhofer IPA and utilising CNT actuators are presented.
