Titel
Determination of mechanical and fatigue properties of HVOF-sprayed coatings
Abstract
High velocity oxy-fuel spraying (HVOF) is the most suitable process in the group of thermal spray processes for realizing the functionality of hardmetals on the surfaces of large parts. Before HVOF-sprayed hardmetal coatings can be used reliably under fatigue or rolling contact fatigue loading much more information about their mechanical properties must be obtained. This paper summarises initial results for both mechanical and fatigue behaviour of unnotched specimens of HVOF-sprayed WC-17%Co and Cr3C2-25%NiCr coatings. The coating microstructures were studied by SEM and the phase compositions by XRD. The Youngs modulus was also determined using laser acoustic surface waves.
