Title
Stable optical source and high-speed photodetector used for remote fiber-optic 64-GHz mm wave generation
Abstract
Advanced optical concepts are required to ensure a high quality of the mm-wave carrier. In the control station the optical signals are heterodyned and converted into a mm-wave signal. A high optical power level is desired with respect to noise considerations and to reduce mm-wave amplification requirements. Therefore, ultrafast photodetectors are necessary, which provide linear operation up to high power levels. In this paper we describe an optical source and a waveguide integrated photodetector used for the remote generation of mm-wave signals.
