Evaluation of Different Steady-State Simulation Methods for EMI Analyses of ICs
Abstract
This contribution evaluates different circuit simulation methods for Electromagnetic Immunity (EMI) analysis of analog IC building blocks. More specifically transient analysis of direct power injection (DPI) is compared with RF methods, namely harmonic balance and shooting method. Different cases which are typically susceptible for EMI are studied. They include a rail-to-rail op-amp, a bandgap and a linear voltage regulator in two different technologies. The evaluation of simulation times and convergence to correct steady state values provides guidelines for the application of the mentioned methods.
