Abstract
DE 102008028540 A1 UPAB: 20100107 NOVELTY - In the stationary deposition of a gradient layer on a plastics substrate by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), where organometallic precursor(s) and reactive gas(es) are supplied into a chamber (11), (a) the plasma (17) is generated using a pulse-operated magnetron (16) and (b) the electricity supply parameters for the magnetron and the gas flow quantities into the vacuum chamber are not varied during layer deposition. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a plastics substrate having a gradient layer containing at least carbon, oxygen, hydrogen and a metallic or semimetallic element, where the gradient layer contains organic and inorganic compounds and the ratio of organic to inorganic compounds increases from the substrate to the layer surface. USE - Especially for depositing a scratch-resistant layer on a plastics substrate (claimed), such as a spectacle lens. Specifically the degree of crosslinking and the hardness of the gradient layer increase from the substrate to the layer surface (claimed), so that the layer is both compatible with the (relatively soft) plastics substrate and extremely hard at the exterior surface. The gradient layer may also be e.g. a smoothing, adhesion-promoting, defect covering, water and gas barrier or electrical insulation layer. ADVANTAGE - Gradients layers are deposited using simple technology and with minimized thermal stress on the substrate. Scratch-resistant layers having a thickness of less than 4 mu m can be applied.
