In-vitro tests for biostability of materials for micro implants

Three test methods are shown that allow running accelerated in vitro tests to investigate biostability of materials used for micro implants: (i) aging in overheated simulated body fluid for etch rate determination, (ii) leakage current measurement for isolation and pinhole control, (iii) monitoring of an encapsulation test chip to research film deposition and passivation properties. Preliminary results for PECVD ceramic films and silicone are presented.
