Abstract
In aerosol smog-chamber experiments we have investigated the efficiency of externally mixed aerolols (metal oxide aerosols are generated separately and then mixed to salt aerosol) on halogen activation. The metal oxide aerosols ( model materials for desert-dust outbursts from the Sahara), are found to increase the production of atomic Cl. Furthermore, halogenated products like phosgene, chloroacetone and 1,1-dichloroacetone, bromoacetone and 1,1-dibromoacetone are observed to be generated from the degradation of non-halogenated alkanes and toluene.
