Analysis of specific products from the pyrolysis of halons in a running Diesel engine
Abstract
We examined the products which resulted from the pyrolysis of halons in a running dieselmotor. Particles were separated by an appropriate filter. The remaining organic gases were bound to modified charcoal and sorbing polymers and analyzed by means of automatic thermodesorption (ATD). When using a Flame-Ionisation-Detector the gas-chromatograms showed a significant better combustion in case of the halon loaded fluegases compared to the blanks. Likewise one found several new peaks in the chromatograms that result from an Electron-Capture-Detector after halon application.
