Titel
Kinetic studies of the corrosion of Si3N4 materials in acids
Abstract
The corrosion processes of Si3N4 materials contg. a glassy grain boundary phase in sulfuric acid at varying temps. was studied. Different ceramics were prepd. by varying the compn. and amt. of the grain boundary phase. The grain size distributions of the samples were varied by applying certain sintering regimes. The corrosion was characterized by wt. loss, thickness, and morphol. of the corroded layer. The results were discussed with respect to the microstructure and the mechanisms of corrosion. First attempts on modeling the corrosion processes considering a mixed-reaction control are described.
