Titel
Development and application of material models for the description of deformation behaviour of aluminium foams
Abstract
Aluminium foams offer a great potential for the improvement of crash behaviour of automobile components due to their specific properties for energy absorption. However, until now only a few experimental results exist for the characterization of the deformation and fracture behaviour of the foams under a triaxial stress state. No appropriate material models are available for the simulation of metal foams. Therefore, triaxial tests were performed to determine the mechanical properties of different aluminium foams and the material model derived by Deshpande and Fleck was analysed, implemented into a finite element programme and used for a crash simulation of a motor carrier with a foam core.
